MEET MICHAEL

Michael is someone who has made many successful transitions because he lives a life balanced by inner and outer simplicity.

From an early age Michael was drawn to the natural world by an insatiable curiosity. But also by the need to retreat into the peace and balance he experienced in nature. Even at an early age Michael was painfully aware of how complicated and often chaotic most people seemed to live their lives. He longed for a simpler and more balanced way of being in the world. His deep relationship with the natural order gave him the insights to live skillfully in the midst of life’s ever changing transitions.

Living a life of simplicity has many benefits. With an uncluttered mind and an uncluttered life, Michael was able to see things clearly, make accurate evaluations and arrive at very creative and innovative solutions. With out having a degree in library science or cartography, he was offered the position of Cartographic Research Librarian at National Geographic Society. After six months of analyzing the huge collection which had been in chaos for years, he developed a system unique to the needs of the staff and taught them how to use it. This transition brought about an atmosphere of creativity and greatly enhanced the enjoyment of those using the library.

Needing to move on after that accomplishment, Michael became a professional cook at a large Psychotherapy Institute. The staff noticed his natural abilities of understanding and skill in dealing with clients and invited him to be a full staff member. So again having no degree in this field Michael participated in all staff meeting and in the evaluation of all clients. This lead to his becoming the facilitator of the Institute participating in all planing and development ending a whole new meaning to ‘chief cook and bottle washer.’ But most important was the transition into a life devoted to understanding the deeper meaning and creative possibilities for himself and for others.

Michael realized he needed to make a personal commitment and make wise choices that would deepen and sustain the new direction his life had taken. He wanted to live his life with a clear sense of purpose guided by his heart of hearts, his essential self. Over the years he studied widely. Through the study and practice of Buddhism, Taoism, Shamanism and Western psychological process work, he gained the experience and learned many ways to support his own personal and spiritual development and to support others. He brings the richness and joy of his own life into his coaching practice of supporting others who find themselves at a crossroad in their own lives.

But for Michael, the most significant transition was yet to come. In his 50’s he began to feel a huge shift that challenged the person he though he was. The shift was troubling so he sought guidance. After only four sessions a councilor concluded there was nothing amiss about his psychological condition. So using his own life as a laboratory, Michael came to realize he was in preparation for the transition into Elderhood. He discovered there was little available to support this transition. He saw few people had passed through this portal successfully and were psychological unprepared for their retirement. The promise of becoming a wise mentor and role model for others was blocked by unresolved mental clutter and unproductive habits. The simplicity of heart, mind and life was lacking. Having passed through this transition with great success, Michael decided he would support others through their passage into Retirement and Elderhood. The world needs wise people. The world needs you.
